چکیده

Since the launch in December of 1999, ASTER (Advanced Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer) has collected more than 1,100,000 scenes of data and generated more than 11,000 DEM and ortho-rectified images (Level 3A) from them, covering 20% of the whole land. The relative and absolute accuracy of geolocation and DEM will be discussed by comparing GCPs (Ground Control Point), GIS (Geographic Information System) and other existing topographic map. ASTER has shown very high geometric accuracy even if any GCP is not available. Contributing factors to this high accuracy are the stability and knowledge of the space craft orbit and attitude, ASTER sensors geometry, information on the Earth movement, algorithm to calculate the line of site vectors, and so on. Discussion will also cover the applicability of the DEM and ortho-rectified image data, based on the accuracy, and the discussion on further improvement.

Updating the 1:50.000 topographic maps using ASTER and SRTM DEM: the case of Athens, Greece [6366-6]

The 1:50.000 topographic maps present a nominal horizontal accuracy of 20 meters and a nominal vertical accuracy of 10 meters with 90% confidence. The data were in most cases extracted with photogrammetric techniques from aerial stereo-photographs during the 80’s. The usual update rate for these maps ranges from ten to twenty years. The Advanced Spaceborn Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiome...

Automatic Ortho-rectification of ASTER Images by Matching Digital Elevation Models

The ortho-rectification of satellite images is normally a timeconsuming and expensive task. It can strongly benefit from automatic or semiautomatic procedures in order to avoid field work for ground control survey. This article presents an automated method to automatically georeference satellite images acquired by the ASTER sensor. The method is based on automatic matching of images and Digital...

The accuracy of a DEM derived from ASTER data using differential GPS measurements

ASTER is a high-spatial resolution, multispectral imaging system flying aboard TERRA, a satellite launched in December 1999 as part of NASA’s Earth Observing System (EOS). An ASTER scene covering 61.5 km x 63 km contains data from 14 spectral bands. An ASTER Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is generated using bands 3N (nadir) and 3B (backward) level 1A images acquired by the Visible Near Infra-red...

Assessment of ASTER Data for Soils Investigation Using Field Data and GIS in Damghan Playa

In order to assess the satellite data for soil investigation, ASTER digital data 20 June 2006, field study and phisiochemical properties of soil, were analyzed. All landcover classes including soils are classified based onmorphological and physico-chemical characteristics. Images were geocorrected and photomorphic units were selected based upon visual interpretation and sampling in study area. ...
